Search Is Becoming Answer Discovery. Your Content Still Has to Deserve the Citation.
Optimising for visibility without creating useful, credible information risks producing content that is easy to parse but not worth trusting.
Search behaviour is fragmenting across traditional engines, AI assistants, social platforms, marketplaces and community sources. LinkedIn’s 2026 AI-search guidance argues that B2B discovery is increasingly happening inside language models, while Google continues to emphasise people-first, reliable content.
The temptation is to respond with another checklist of technical tricks. Structure does matter, but the deeper requirement is authority. If a page says nothing distinctive, there is little reason for a search system, buyer or partner to prefer it.
Write for questions with commercial meaning
Keyword volume is only one signal. Start with the questions customers ask during evaluation, procurement, implementation and renewal. Those questions are closer to real commercial intent and often reveal where the market lacks clear explanations.
Create pages that answer one subject comprehensively rather than stretching a thin idea across many near-duplicate articles.
Make the answer easy to find
Clear headings, short summaries, definitions, tables and checklists improve usability. They also make it easier for automated systems to identify the part of a page that answers a specific question.
Do not confuse structure with oversimplification. Important caveats, assumptions and context should remain visible, especially in technical, legal or regulated topics.
Use named expertise and sources
Google’s guidance encourages original information, analysis and clear evidence of expertise. LinkedIn’s recent AI-search guidance similarly stresses distinct points of view. For B2B brands, that means subject-matter experts should be visible.
Bylines, contributor quotes, customer examples, source links and review dates all help a reader understand where the information came from and how current it is.
Think beyond the website
Authority is distributed. Buyers may encounter your expertise through LinkedIn, a partner, a marketplace, a podcast or an event before visiting the site. Those surfaces should reinforce a recognisable set of ideas and evidence.
This is less about chasing every platform and more about making the organisation’s strongest expertise consistently findable.
Practical checklist
- Turn recurring buyer questions into priority content.
- Add clear answer blocks and descriptive headings.
- Include source links and review dates on factual material.
- Use named experts where expertise matters.
- Audit whether external channels reinforce the same core themes.
